Each year eligible student teams from every continent apply to participate in the Emory Morningside Global Health Case competition. The event provides students the opportunity to network with peers from around the world and connect with expert case advisors and judges from diverse fields, including public health, government, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.
The event is held in person on the Emory University campus in Atlanta, Georgia. The host, Emory Global Health Institute (EGHI), provides food, lodging, and ground transportation between the Atlanta airport and the Emory Conference Center and Hotel. Student participants or their universities are responsible for travel costs to and from Atlanta. EGHI may provide travel assistance to a limited number of teams from universities located in low- and middle-income countries.
For the 2025 competition, applications will be accepted from 12:00 PM (ET) Monday, October 21, until 5:00 PM (ET) Monday, November 25, 2024. The APPLY linkwill be activated at 12:00 PM (ET) on October 21, 2024. EGHI will communicate with each team regarding its application status once the application period closes. There is no fee to apply. Four to six students compose a team; students must represent at least three different schools or disciplines with the university. Medical residents, post-graduate fellows, and post-doctoral fellows affiliated with the university are also eligible. One multidisciplinary student team per university may compete. Universities can select their team members in whatever manner they prefer. EGHI encourages universities hold intramural global health case competitions to select a team to send to the Emory Morningside Global Health Case Competition. Any university can use EGHI's case competition guideto help it plan its own intramural competition. The competition has two rounds: During the competition week, teams are free to work on their case solutions. Each team meets virtually for one hour with a case advisor, who provides feedback on their draft. Teams may also schedule a one-hour communication consultation to discuss communication deliverables and best practices. Team members can seek feedback from other experts in the field on their ideas but must generate case solution ideas themselves. The case subject is announced to all registered teams eight days before the competition. The case may include issues such as healthcare policy, public health implementation and planning, business partnership/investment, medical research, international development, logistics and management, faith/cultural understanding, international law, and other disciplines.
